Get ready to groove this summer with the Wednesdays on Walnut concert series, hosted by the Wayne Center for the Arts. These free community concerts are made possible by the Ohio Arts Council’s ArtsNEXT grant program and bring live music to the neighborhood south of Liberty Street.

“We’re excited to bring our community these fun and diverse evenings of music, dance and connection,” Executive Director Sara Starr Brink said.

The concerts will start at 6 p.m. on WCA’s front lawn. Attendees should bring lawn chairs or blankets and pack a picnic to have alongside the performances. Activities provided by Wooster Parks and Recreation and other local partners also will be available.

The series will kick off May 28 with Mo' Mojo, a band known for its blend of Zydeco, Cajun, blues and New Orleans music. Led by a female vocalist, Mo' Mojo does uplifting tunes with a community-focused message.

Next up on June 11, Carlos Jones and the PLUS Band will bring their reggae beats to the stage. With over 35 years of entertaining audiences across the U.S., Carlos Jones is renowned for delivering a message of peace, love and unity through music.

On July 23 Benny Lava & the Guavas, an Akron-based band known for its blend of rock, jazz and world music, will perform.

Closing out the series on Aug. 13 will be the British Invasion, a tribute band that recreates the 1960s era when British rock bands including The Beatles, The Rolling Stones, The Kinks and The Who took over the American music scene.

“Music has a way of bringing people together across generations and backgrounds,” Brink said. “We look forward to seeing WCA’s front lawn filled with friends and neighbors enjoying memorable summer evenings.”

All concerts are free to attend. WCA is part of Wooster's Designated Outdoor Refreshment Area, and beverages will be available for purchase.
