Wooster Music Club holds final meeting of season
The Wooster Music Club met May 6 at Wooster United Methodist Church. Co-president Louie Miller welcomed members and guests to the final meeting of the 2024-25 season.
Opening the performance portion of the meeting were Asher Carmean on violin, Levi Carmean on piano and Zeb Carmean on cello. The trio performed “Will Your Anchor Hold” and “He Hideth My Soul.”
The vocal trio About Time, consisting of Charlotte Marsh, Louie Miller and Joan Swartz, was accompanied on piano by Myra Leeper. The group presented songs from the 1970s including “Let It Be” (John Lennon and Paul McCartney, arranged by Roger Emerson), “Fly Like an Eagle” (Steve Miller, arranged by Mac Huff), theme from “New York, New York” (John Kander and Fred Ebb, arranged by Mark Hayes), “Lean on Me” (Bill Withers, arranged by Mark Hayes), “We Shall Overcome” (musical and lyrical adaptation by Zilphia Horton, Frank Hamilton, Guy Carawan and Pete Seeger), and “When Will I See You Again” (Kenneth Gamble and Leon Huff, arranged by Greg Gilpin).
Following the musical selections, Louie Miller shared details about the life of Bill Withers during the Composer’s Corner segment.
Next, Meg Litteral (violin) and Lauren Tappen (guitar) performed instrumental arrangements of “The Quiet Room” (Jay Ungar), “Shenandoah Valley Waltz” (traditional) and “Ashokan Twilight” (Tom Krumm). Before the final performance, Litteral read her poem “Death of a Dream.”
The evening concluded with a piano performance by scholarship recipient Eli Hembree, who played “Red Rose Rendezvous” by Martha Mier.
The club also announced the recipients of the Wooster Music Club Dilgard Music Legacy Award for 2024-25: Asher, Levi and Zeb Carmean (students of Meg Litteral); Claire Lukehart (student of Joe Capozzio); Charlie Lorson and Ryan Speicher (students of Elyse Cummings); Braydan Springer (student of Elizabeth Crabtree); Amelia Cloes (student of Myra Leeper); Alyssa Janson and Gloria Nolt (students of Chloe Raber); Paige Baer and Jacie Reeves (students of Lorna Parks); and Sawyer Halloran (student of Sally Morton).
The Wooster Music Club meets the first Tuesday of the month at 6:30 p.m. from September through May, excluding January and February, in Wesley Hall at Wooster United Methodist Church. Guests are welcome.
