E. Holmes BOE approves offering summer instruction
East Holmes Local Schools Board of Education met for a regular meeting on Friday, March 15 at the East Holmes Central Office.
The board did the following during the meeting:
—Recognized the following Hiland WKLM Students of the Week: Solomon Yoder, March 4-8; William Moan, March 11-15; and Gwen Favia, March 18-22.
—Approved inter-district open enrollment for three students at Berlin Elementary for the remainder of the 2023-24 school year.
—Approved offering inter-district and intra-district open enrollment in the East Holmes Local School District for the 2024-25 school year. Inter-district is for any student living in Ohio. Intra-district is for students living in the East Holmes Local School District.
—Approved offering summer instruction for students currently enrolled in kindergarten through fifth grade to be held at Berlin Elementary June 3-5, 10-12 and 17-19. The district will hire up to 15 summer instruction teachers (to be determined later) for nine days at four hours per day Monday through Wednesday, and they will be paid $30 per hour.
—Approved increasing the substitute teachers’ salary schedule by $5 to $100 per day, effective at the beginning of the 2024-25 school year.
—Approved a renewal contract with EJ Therapy Services for occupational and physical therapy and audiology services for the 2024-25 and 2025-26 school years.
—Accepted the resignations of Troy Miller, Title I at Berlin, retiring at the end of the 2023-24 contractual school year, and Maria Letner, girls assistant softball coach, effective March 7.
—Approved Morgan Metzger from Kent State University to complete her student teaching hours at Flat Ridge Elementary during the 2024-25 school year.
—Approved all substitute personnel hired by East Holmes Local Schools and the Tri-County Educational Service Center for the 2023-24 school year.
—Approved the following supplemental positions for the 2023-24 school year: Olivia Blosser, track boys and girls head coach; Seger Bonifant, track varsity assistant coach; Austin Kaufman, track varsity assistant coach; Megan Amos, track junior high boys and girls coach; and Carrie Jones, tennis varsity assistant coach.
