The Fairless Board of Education voted during a special meeting June 27 to place a 10-year, 3.6-mill substitute levy on the Nov. 4 ballot. If approved by voters, the levy is expected to generate $1,883,460 in its first year.

Treasurer Mark Phillips was directed to certify the substitute levy, along with a resolution of necessity and accompanying documentation from the county auditor, to the Stark County Board of Elections by Aug. 6.

In other board actions, a one-year certified teaching contract was granted to Mary Hammel for the 2025-26 school year. Patricia Burwell was issued a one-year probationary contract as a bus driver for the same school year.

The board approved an agreement with SPARCC for Cross Check services at a cost of $1,326, effective July 1, 2025, to June 30, 2026. A memorandum of understanding with the Stark County Educational Service Center also was approved for the CARE Team and Family Support Specialist Program, not to exceed $70,440 for the 2025-26 academic year.

Monthly insurance premiums for employees were set, with medical coverage costing $1,066 for single coverage and $2,591 for family coverage. Dental rates were set at $102 for single coverage and $253 for family coverage. These rates are effective from July 1, 2025, to June 30, 2026.

The board entered into an agreement with PowerSchool for applicant tracking and the SchoolSpring job board at a cost of $1,776. School meal prices for the upcoming year were approved: breakfast at $2.10 for students in kindergarten through 12th grade and $2.49 for adults. Lunch prices will be $3.25 for kindergarten through fifth grade, $3.50 for sixth grade through 12th grade and $4.25 for adults.

Supplemental coaching contracts for the 2025-26 school year were issued to Ashley Schott as varsity assistant girls basketball coach and Haley Hoskins as reserve girls basketball coach. Additional contracts were granted to nondistrict teachers including Krista Doane as assistant cross country coach and Jessica Davis as junior varsity volleyball coach.

The board announced its next regular meeting will be held Aug. 19 at 6:15 p.m. at 800 Seventh St. SE in Brewster. The previously scheduled July 15 meeting has been canceled.
