Krantz is new EH Schools assistant superintendent
East Holmes Local Schools has recently added some new leadership to the district, hiring Micki Krantz to fill the newly created position of assistant superintendent.
At its June 20 meeting, the East Holmes Board of Education formally approved the appointment of Krantz as the new assistant superintendent of EHLS.
According to Superintendent Erik Beun, this position is designed to strengthen district-level leadership and support across multiple areas including human resources, curriculum and instruction, student services, and professional growth. With growing demands in these areas, the East Holmes leadership team identified the need to expand its administrative support to ensure the district continues meeting the needs of students, staff and families across the district.
Beun said bringing an assistant superintendent on board is a forward-thinking investment that enhances district leadership capacity and reinforces their commitment to the long-term success of every student.
He said this type of role is trending in many schools, depending on the size of a district.
Beun said the district has been exploring this option for a couple of years now and felt it was the perfect time to act.
“It’s a good way to support everyone throughout the district while adding some focus with HR responsibilities while at the same time be able to speak to various things district-wise,” Beun said.
He said that could be related to curriculum, professional development for any staff member and general operations.
As for the qualifications, Beun believes Krantz is a perfect fit for the new role.
Krantz brings more than 30 years of experience in education, having served as a teacher, instructional coach, principal, director of instruction and assistant superintendent at Revere Local Schools.
Her leadership background spans urban, suburban and rural settings, and she is known for her ability to build relationships while maintaining high expectations for learning and growth.
“Micki brings not only a strong instructional background, but also a passion for people,” Beun said. “She will be instrumental in helping us strengthen systems that support student achievement and staff success.”
Beun said the board went through a few rounds of interviews, and at each one, Krantz’s professionalism, work ethic and attitude stood out.
“Her breadth of experience in a variety of different districts excites us about how she can help with an outside point of view,” Beun said. “She brings a voice of both affirming what we are doing well and also a new set of eyes in addressing challenges we are both aware of and unaware of at this point. The board likes the idea that she can bring new eyes and ideas that can help us improve as a school district, something we are always trying to accomplish.”
Krantz, a native of Strasburg, holds degrees from Walsh and Ashland universities and a superintendent license from Youngstown State University. She has led professional development, directed district testing and reporting, and overseen federal programming and human resources.
Beun said Krantz expressed a zeal for bringing her expertise to this new role in East Holmes Local Schools and said her values and experience closely align with the East Holmes community.
“I think that was a really important part of the equation for Micki,” Beun said.
