Family-to-Family course begins Jan. 5

                        
The NAMI Family-to-Family Education Program, a free 12-week course for families and friends of individuals with brain disorders called serious mental illness, begins Tuesday, Jan. 5. The course is taught by trained family members who have lived with this experience. All course materials are furnished at no cost. Many family members describe the impact of this program as life changing. Join thousands of families who have gained information, insight, and understanding and empowerment. Throughout the 12-week course, topics will include: Ÿ Family responses to the trauma of mental illness; Schizophrenia, major depression, and mania: Diagnosis and dealing with critical periods Ÿ Depression and bipolar subtypes; Panic disorder; Obsessive compulsive disorder (OCD); Borderline personality disorder; Co-occurring brain and addictive disorders Ÿ The biology of the brain: emerging scientific discoveries; Problem solving workshop; Medication review; Understanding the inner experience of having a mental illness; Communication skills workshop; Self-care, relative group testimony; Rehabilitation, services available; Advocacy, fighting stigma; and a celebration and certification ceremony. Preregistration is required. Classes are held Tuesdays, from 7-9 p.m., at the Stanley R. Slater building, 1273 Lincoln Way West, Wooster—next to House of Iron Gym.
