Pomerene Auxiliary, a pillar of support for Pomerene Hospital since its inception in 1972, continues its legacy of service with the recent acquisition of 10 new wheelchairs. The purchase exemplifies the auxiliary’s commitment to enhancing patient care and comfort within the hospital.

Established more than five decades ago, Pomerene Auxiliary has been an integral part of the community, assisting the hospital with patient care and fundraising endeavors. Over the years the auxiliary has organized a plethora of events including the Christmas Festival, uniform sale, bake sale, book sale, basket raffle and flower sale, which not only bring the community together, but also raise funds for hospital initiatives.

In addition to fundraising, Pomerene volunteers play a vital role in the day-to-day operations of the hospital. They can be found manning the hospital information desk and the coffee and gift shop.

With a current roster of 56 active volunteers, Pomerene Auxiliary’s mission remains to support and promote the welfare of Pomerene Hospital, Pomerene Medical Group and Pomerene Health Foundation. Their impact is undeniable, as evidenced by the 5,110 hours worked by Pomerene volunteers in 2023 alone.

“The purchase of these wheelchairs is yet another testament to the unwavering dedication of our volunteers and their commitment to the well-being of our patients,” said Jason Justus, CEO of Pomerene Hospital. “We are immensely proud of the contributions made by our volunteers, and we look forward to continuing our mission: caring for our community’s health.”

Pomerene Auxiliary invites community members to join the group in its endeavors to support Pomerene Hospital and its associated entities. Whether through volunteerism or participation in fundraising events, every contribution makes a difference in the lives of patients and their families.
