On April 22 Wooster Community Hospital began work on its Patient Access Emergency Center expansion project with a groundbreaking to kick off the project.

The new wing was designed to be conveniently located near surgery, obstetrics (Women’s Pavilion) and the patient tower, ensuring prompt and efficient emergency care for patients. Spanning approximately 44,000 square feet, the facility aims to provide access ease to all hospital patients.

Other features of the Patient Access Emergency Center include the following:

—New Emergency Center: dedicated behavioral health space with improved patient and family waiting space, results and discharge lounges, space used for patients who no longer need an emergency department room, and improved support for pediatric patients.

—Enhanced main entrance: provides convenient access to outpatient registration, medical records and customer service. Outpatient lab services will be located near the main entrance. This also will result in improved security and controlled access to the main hospital.

—Convenient EMS space: larger, dedicated ambulance entrance with a canopy and also have better access to the new helipad, all for the benefit of emergency medical services.

The project is expected to be completed in 2026.
