The end of the Downtown Farmers Market doesn’t mean the end for good local food, because Wooster Local Foods Cooperative Inc., doing business as Local Roots Market and Café, will open Oct. 31, kicking off a month of special events. To welcome the community to Local Roots, the cooperative will hold an open house on Saturday, Oct. 31, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Community members may tour the facility or simply enjoy hot coffee or cider and local baked goods once they have visited the Downtown Farmers Market. As a year-round farmers market located in downtown Wooster, Local Roots will provide a central hub for area producers to sell fruits, vegetables, meats, dairy, and other Ohio-grown agricultural products. During the month of November, the market will look like an extension of the Downtown Farmers Market, with producers setting up tables with products for sale. In addition, producer members will list their available products through the market Web site, and cooperative members will have the opportunity to order online. Every Saturday in November, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., members will be able to pick up orders, and shoppers will have a chance to browse for other good food. Other special events will include: On Nov. 7 and 21, Local Roots will host a film series, featuring Food, Inc. and PolyCultures, as part of its educational mission. On Nov. 21, Local Roots will host its first annual Holiday Market. The cooperative is open for membership and invites interested producers and consumers to visit the Web site for details on the benefits of Local Roots membership. To learn more about Local Roots, call the market at 330-263-5336, visit the Web site at www.localrootswooster.com, or e-mail info@localrootswooster.com.
